Scenically Silent Sky was simple yet breathtaking. It followed the story of Henrietta Leavitt a woman at the turn of the century the first relative measurement allowing us to know where in the cosmos we are. she worked with other women known as computers to document the night sky. to reflect early forms of astrophotography used by the computers in silent sky we created large projection screens to resemble the star plates. It was a beautiful and intimate show that was an honor to be a part of.
We created the projection screens by welding together 1-inch box tube frames, We fixed a paint-treated sheet of paper to the back of the frame implying the depth of a thick sheet of glass and then we T-nailed plywood nailers to the outside, allowing us to stretch a vinyl sheeting across the top and secure it with staples to create a projection screen. We then paired these projection screens with steel plates and suspended them from the grid in our black box theater using hand line and bowline knots.
